While investigating reports of illegal arms trafficking, peacekeepers encountered an unclassified carnivorous species occupying a small village in North Africa. These rabid creatures were easy to provoke and withstand conventional attack. Eight samples were encountered in the area now referred to as "Earth: Alpha". The victims of the attack were quarantined at a nearby research facility. These victims showed signs of internal liquefaction and an acceleration of necrosis, similar to those of other carnivorous viruses native to that region.

But it wasn't a viral outbreak. It was a parasite infestation. An unknown type of hookworm was found under the skin of the Earth: alpha samples. These parasites, we call them "alpha worms," have laid dozens of eggs inside their hosts, which in turn have spawned many larvae. These larvae penetrated the bloodstream and caused a variety of genetic failures however, and unlike most cases of genetic failure, these symptoms were not fatal. Instead, the affected victims were bigger, stronger ... and driven from starvation. Using the research gained from the ground: alpha samples, a team of some special individuals was assembled. A slight outbreak occurred over the next few years, but the Elite team quickly brought them down. Which brings us to the current situation in Tokyo
